Kandy, also called the cultural

about 100 KM from the capital Colombo, the town is a massive tour location
attracting thousands of visitors each year for their holidays Sri Lanka. The
city is sandwiched between hills and is probably the most fascinating city in
the world. It is surrounded by a lake that is bordered by raised walls all
around it. On one side, you will find the legendary Temple of the Tooth. This
is the sacred temple where a tooth of Buddha is kept.
Each year around July a
tremendous ceremony is held in the city as worshippers bring gifts to the
temple as they come to see the famous casket where the tooth is kept. Elephants
are paraded in the streets as thousands of people accompany the entourage in
song and dance. It’s a fascinating sight that is the dream of any visitor in
Sri Lanka.
The city is a terrific fun spot
where you can take pictures, take part in the dances and have a chance to meet
the highly religious locals. While here a strict dress code must be observed as
it is a sacred place. When taking pictures you will be informed that it is
blasphemy to turn your back to the sacred statues. Also, to have the most fun, keep away your work gear. Things like stethoscopes for nurses and other medical equipment are also not allowed when visiting the religious leaders. As you end your holidays Sri
Lanka, you will have known why most tourists return each year.
